Behind the Seams – A Night of Indulgence and Ballet Magic

Presented by Queensland Ballet x Layla x Bloch

Step beyond the stage and into the rarely seen world of ballet costuming for a one-night-only cocktail-style evening of ballet craftsmanship and dinning.

The experience begins at Layla with a curated roaming menu by renowned chef Shane Delia, featuring canapés, a signature dish and dessert paired with premium beverages. Guests will then be guided in intimate groups through Queensland Ballet’s Costume Workshop — a space rarely accessible to the public.

Encounter ethereal tutus, intricately embellished bodices, delicate tiaras and well-worn pointe shoes from across Queensland Ballet’s repertoire up close, while hearing directly from the makers behind them. Discover the extraordinary detail, technical mastery and imagination required to bring ballet’s most iconic characters to life.

As the evening concludes, guests return to Layla for a final moment of indulgence — carrying with them a deeper understanding of the artistry hidden behind the curtain.

Arrival from 5.45 pm for a 6.00pm event start, evening concludes at 9.00pm.

A special stand-alone runway show featuring new season looks. Carla Zampatti has been a leading force in Australian fashion since 1965, blending Italian heritage with modern Australian sophistication. Known for timeless elegance, the brand creates contemporary, sexy, and impeccably crafted pieces that empower women in every aspect of life. Shoes by Edward Meller.

The finale gown will feature custom jewellery by Margot McKinney. Guests will also receive a gift bag including a custom-designed Carla Zampatti cake from Priestley’s Gourmet Delights, ISSADA Sheer Defence SPF 50+ and Schwarzkopf Professional Bonacure Repair Rescue Hair Balm, plus more.

A Luxe Luncheon

Join us on the picturesque lawn of historic, Hanworth House, for a delicious spring inspired fashionable luncheon in conversation with two outstanding Queensland fashion families which have helped shape our fashion and retail scene.

With Alison Kubler as MC, our special guests include Margot McKinney OAM and Andrew McKinney Welch from McKinney Jewellers, along with Samantha and Phoebe Ogilvie from Samantha Ogilvie, who will be discussing the importance of legacy, intergenerational storytelling, and continuity within the fashion and retail industry.

Enjoy a 2-course spring menu (plus sweet treat!) prepared by renown Brisbane Alistair McLeod and his AlFreshCo team, enjoy Moët & Chandon mini on arrival & tempting drinks from Vintage Bar Co.

Money raised from the event goes to Women’s Legal Service QLD.

The Gala Closing show will feature our largest number of designers, spotlighting Queensland and Australian top fashion talents in a spectacular showcase. As the finale show of Brisbane Fashion Festival for the year, the Gala Closing Show will feature exuberance, excitement, and often theatricality as briefed by the participating designers, as a vibrant send-off and irresistible push to shop Spring/Summer collections featuring leading names in Queensland and Australian designers.

Take in the season’s must-have looks from a line-up including Sonia Stradiotto Couture, Sacha Drake, Mannzilo, RicRac Road, I Am My Husband’s Mistress, Millyzu, Carol D’Silva, Jotéo, Astille, and Kristian Williams The Brand.

Join us as we celebrate the official close to the 2025 Brisbane Fashion Festival.

Rub shoulders and mingle with Australia’s fashion elite.

The Designer Group Show will be followed by the official Fashion Festival After Party hosted by InterContinental Brisbane. Commencing at 8pm, ticket holders, designers, models and VIP’s will enjoy a welcome drink and canapés upon arrival at Brisbane’s most coveted luxury address Latitude 27 Bar, InterContinental Brisbane. A cash bar will be available thereafter.

In partnership with Brisbane Fashion Festival, join Beyond DV in King George Square at 4.00pm on Friday 28 August, walking to the Queen Street Mall, for “Dress to Express” Day. Wear your most fabulous outfit- walk in solidarity with DV survivors on their own journey to rediscover their identity and style, then join us for an evening cocktail party at the InterContinental Brisbane from 5.30pm to 8.00pm

How fabulous do we feel when we wear our favourite outfit?

Sadly, many community members in abusive relationships don’t get to choose what they wear. This is one of the most common forms of coercive control.
